Pediatric Anesthesia

Our pediatric caseload is excellent.  Residents provide care to all age groups and in all surgical subspecialties, including the sick neonate, children with severe cardiac disease, children with central nervous system abnormalities, and healthy children for outpatient surgery.

CA-2 residents do pediatric anesthesia for one month in the University Hospital.  During this rotation, they are supervised by attending pediatric anesthesiologists and do a wide variety of cases.  CA-2s do a second month of pediatric anesthesia at the Shriners Hospital.  This hospital is for children with disabilities and most cases are orthopedic or plastic surgery.  CA-3 residents may choose a one to three month elective in the management of high-risk infants.
