Cardiothoracic CA-3 Echo

1. To gain an appreciation of the basic science of echocardiography
2. To learn the indications for echocardiography
3. To gain experience in the operating room in obtaining the basic views of transesophageal echocardiography
4. To determine if further training in TEE is desired in order to meet the requirements for certification in perioperative echocardiography

Method:
1. Attendance at didactic lectures in the Division of Cardiology . Dr Mikel Smith has graciously extended this offer to our Department. Introduce yourself to Dr Smith and find out when and where the lectures are given.
2. Observation of TEE and TTE studies in the non-invasive cardiology laboratory. Again, Dr Smith has graciously extended the invitation; remember that this is an informal arrangement and do not impose excessive demands on the time of Dr Smith.
3. Attendance in the Operating Room for all TEE’s. All attending cardiothoracic anesthesiologists will welcome you. Depending on the case, it may be desirable to enlist the aid of another one of the group to provide practical teaching while the attending anesthesiologist is busy with patient care and anesthesia resident teaching.
